Die Messwertaufnahme und Umsetzung mechanischer Winkelstellungen in elektrisch übertragbare Signale kann je nach Anwendungszweck entweder mit potentiometrischen, induktiven, magnetischen, inkrementalen oder absolut codierten Drehgebern erfolgen. Induktive Drehgeber, die ohne bewegliche Kontakte arbeiten, werden bevorzugt an Messstellen eingesetzt, die extrem starken Erschütterungen oder schlechter Umgebungsatmosphäre ausgesetzt sind. Optoelektronische Drehgeber besitzen Codescheiben, deren Spuren digital abgetastet werden. Sie sind hochauflösend, TK-arm und in Single- oder Multiturnversion mit analoger oder digitaler Signalausgabe verfügbar. Magnetische Winkelaufnehmer sind äußerst robuste, völlig hermetisch gekapselte Messsysteme in Zweikammerbauform der Schutzart IP 68. Sie erfassen z. B. in der Ausführung ohne Wellendurchführung die Winkelstellung eines am Messobjekt angebrachten Permanentmagneten.
